Dave Selznick
Dane Selznick is a prominent figure in the world of volleyball, known for his significant contributions both as a player and a coach. Born on March 19, 1952, Selznick made a name for himself in the 1970s and 1980s as a skilled beach volleyball player. He partnered with notable players such as Karch Kiraly and Sinjin Smith, achieving numerous victories in various tournaments. Dane Selznick won several significant tournaments throughout his beach volleyball career.
Notable victories include:
- Manhattan Beach Open – Selznick won this prestigious tournament multiple times, which is often referred to as the “Wimbledon of Beach Volleyball.”
- Hermosa Beach Open – Another key victory, showcasing his prowess on the Southern California beach volleyball circuit.
- AVP Tournaments – He secured wins in various Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) events, which were prominent in the professional beach volleyball scene during his active years.
These victories contributed to Selznick’s reputation as one of the top beach volleyball players of his time.
Transitioning to coaching, Selznick has been instrumental in training and mentoring many successful volleyball players, including Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings, who won gold medals in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics under his guidance. In addition to Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings, Dane Selznick also coached other prominent volleyball players, including Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal. Gibb and Rosenthal competed in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, achieving notable success under Selznick’s coaching. His expertise and passion has created a dedicated ability to mentor and develop top-tier athletes and has solidified his reputation as a leading coach at any level in the sport.
Dane Selznick has made significant contributions to the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA).
His involvement as a director includes:
- Promoting the Sport – Selznick has been a key figure in promoting beach volleyball through the CBVA, helping to elevate the sport’s profile and attract new players.
- Coaching and Mentoring – He has coached and mentored numerous players within the CBVA framework, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience to develop the next generation of beach volleyball talent.
